Seán South Of Garryowen - Roll Of Honour - Go On Home British Soldiers Medley - Éire Óg

(Seán South Of Garryowen)
[Intro]
Sad are the homes around Garryowen,
Since lost their joy and pride,
And the banshee cry rings every vale,
All along the Shannonside.

That city of the ancient walls,
On broken treaty stone,
Undying fame surrounds your name,
Seán South from Garryowen.

[Verse]
It was on a dreary New Year's Eve as the shades of night came down,
A lorry load of volunteers approached a border town,
There were men from Dublin and from Cork, Fermanagh and Tyrone,
But their leader was a Limerick man, Seán South of Garryowen.

And as they moved along the streets, up to a barrack door,
They scorned the danger they might meet or the fate that lay in store,
They were fighting for old Ireland cause, to claim their very own,
And the foremost of that gallant band was South of Garryowen.

But the sergeant, he foiled their daring plan, he spied them through the door,
The sten guns and all the rifles peel, a hail of death did roar,
And when that awful night was over two men lay cold as stone,
There was one from county Monaghan and one from Garryowen.

No more he will hear the seagulls cry, or the murmuring Shannon tide,
For he fell beneath a northern sky, brave O'Hanlon by his side,
They gone to join that gallant band of Plunkett, Pearse and Tone,
Another martyr for old Ireland, Seán South of Garryowen.

(Roll Of Honour)
[Chorus]
For Ireland's bravest men,
For we must be united in memory of the ten,
England you're a monster, don't think that you have won,
We will never be defeated, while Ireland has such sons.

[Verse]
In those dreary H-Block cages, ten brave young Irishmen lay,
Hungering for justice, while their young lives ebbed away,
For their rights as Irish soldiers, and to free their native land,
They stood beside their leader, who? The gallant Bobby Sands.

Now we mourn Hughes in Bellaghy, Ray McCreesh in Armagh's hills,
In the narrow streets of Free Derry, they miss O'Hara still,
They so proudly gave their young lives to break Britannia's hold,
Their names will be remembered as history unfolds.

[Chorus]
So read the Roll of Honour for Ireland's bravest men,
For we must be united in memory of the ten,
England you're a monster, don't think that you have won,
We will never be defeated, while Ireland has such sons.

[Verse]
Through war torn streets of Ulster, the black flags did sadly wave,
To salute ten Irish martyrs, the bravest of the brave,
Joe McDonnell, Martin Hurson, Kevin Lynch, Kieran Doherty,
They gave their lives for freedom with Thomas McElwee.

Now, Michael Devine from Free Derry, you were the last to die,
With your nine brave companions, with the martyred dead you lie,
Your souls cry out, "Remember, our deaths were not in vain,
So fight on and make our homeland a nation once again."

[Chorus]
So read the Roll of Honour for Ireland's bravest men,
For we must be united in memory of the ten,
England you're a monster, don't think that you have won,
We will never be defeated, while Ireland has such sons.

(Go On Home British Soldiers)
[Chorus]
Go on home, British soldiers, go on home,
Have you got no fucking homes of your own?
For eight hundred years, we've fought you without fear,
And we'll fight you for eight hundred more.

[Verse]
Well, if you stay, British soldiers, if you stay,
You'll never ever beat the IRA,
For the fourteen men in Derry are the last that you will bury,
So, take a tip and leave us while you may.

[Chorus]
So, go on home, British soldiers, go on home,
Have you got no fucking homes of your own?
For eight hundred years, we've fought you without fear,
And we will fight you for eight hundred more.

[Verse]
Well, we're not British, we're not Saxon, we're not English,
We're Irish and proud we are to be,
So, fuck your Union Jack, we want our country back,
We want to see old Ireland free once more.

[Chorus]
So, go on home, British soldiers, go on home,
Have you got no fucking homes of your own?
For eight hundred years, we've fought you without fear,
And we will fight you for eight hundred more.

[Verse]
Well, we'll fight them British soldiers for the cause,
We'll never bow to soldiers because,
Throughout our history, we were born to be free,
So get out, you British bastards, leave us be.

[Chorus]
So, go on home, British soldiers, go on home,
Have you got no fucking homes of your own?
For eight hundred years, we've fought you without fear,
And we will fight you for eight hundred more.

[Chorus]
So, go on home, British soldiers, go on home,
Have you got no fucking homes of your own?
For eight hundred years, we've fought you without fear,
And we will fight you for eight hundred more,
Yes, we'll fight you for eight hundred more.
