[Verse]
In the Crumlin Road Gaol, all the prisoners one day,
Took out a football and they started to play,
And while all the warders were watching the ball,
Nine of the lad they went over the wall.

[Chorus]
Over the wall, over the wall,
It's hard to believe they went over the wall,
Over the wall, over the wall,
It's hard to believe they went over the wall.

[Verse]
Now the warder looked up with the wildest surprise,
And the sight that he saw brought the tears to his eyes,
For one of the teams they were not there at all,
They all got transferred and went over the wall.

[Chorus]
Over the wall, over the wall,
It's hard to believe they went over the wall,
Over the wall, over the wall,
It's hard to believe they went over the wall.

[Verse]
The security forces were shook to the core,
They bolted each window and locked every door,
All their precautions were no good at all,
Another three lads they went over the wall.

[Chorus]
Over the wall, over the wall,
It's hard to believe they went over the wall,
Over the wall, over the wall,
It's hard to believe they went over the wall.

[Verse]
In the Chamber in Stormont, Brian Faulkner turned pale,
To think that these men had escaped from his jail,
We'll have an enquiry to call,
And we'll get Edmund Compton to whitewash the wall."

[Chorus]
Over the wall, over the wall,
It's hard to believe they went over the wall,
Over the wall, over the wall,
It's hard to believe they went over the wall.

[Chorus]
Over the wall, over the wall,
It's hard to believe they went over the wall,
Over the wall, over the wall,
It's hard to believe they went over the wall.
