[Verse]
We all know the stories, we are singing the songs,
Volunteers who died to right Ireland's wrongs,
Billy Reid fought like a hero and took a brave stand,
He died with his Thompson, held tight in his hand.

[Chorus]
A volunteer gives his gives his life, remember his name,
Tell the world his story, again and again,
Remember one man, tell the world of his deeds,
In a gun battle died, the brave Billy Reid.

[Verse]
Each attack was his warning, "Our land will be free",
On active service against the Brits and RUC,
With his comrades one day, a foot patrol they did meet,
And the gun battle, in the small Dockland Street.

[Chorus]
A volunteer gives his gives his life, remember his name,
Tell the world of his story, again and again,
Remember one man, tell the world of his deeds,
In a gun battle died, the brave Billy Reid.

[Verse]
A comrade was wounded, Billy shouted, "Run on!
I'll hold the ground until I know you are gone,
Try not to get captured, oh, I'll hold them back",
He turned at the soldiers, prepared to attack.

Billy Reid jumped for his Thompson, prepared for a fight,
But his weapon betrayed him, the trigger locked tight,
If the gun had been working, he'd have cut those Brits down,
He was cursing his luck as he fell to the ground.

[Chorus]
A volunteer gives his gives his life, remember his name,
Tell the world of his story, again and again,
Remember one man, tell the world of his deeds,
In a gun battle died, the brave Billy Reid.

[Verse]
Wile holding off the enemy, he showed them no fear,
Fighting for freedom, a brave volunteer,
Fallen in action, on a street in Belfast,
Your memory lives on, though long years have past.

[Chorus]
A volunteer gives his gives his life, remember his name,
Tell the world of his story, again and again,
Remember one man, tell the world of his deeds,
In a gun battle died, the brave Billy Reid.

[Chorus]
Oh, a volunteer gives his gives his life, remember his name,
Tell the world of his story, again and again,
Remember one man, tell the world of his deeds,
In a gun battle died, the brave Billy Reid.
