[Verse]
One evening fair as the sun was shining,
To Kilkenny I did ride,
I did meet with Captain Brady,
A tall commander by his side.

[Chorus]
And you are welcome, Highland Paddy,
By me side you'll surely stand,
Hear the people shout for freedom, (Freedom!)
We'll rise in the morning with the Fenian band,
Rise in the morning with the Fenian band.

[Verse]
Well in the morning we rose early,
As the dawn was breaking through,
Blackbirds singing in the bushes,
And greeted to a smiling morn.

Come gather round, free men of Ireland,
Gather Fenians, gather round,
Hand to hand with sword and musket,
And spill the blood upon the holy ground.

[Chorus]
Yes you are welcome, Highland Paddy,
By me side you'll surely stand,
Hear the people shout for freedom, (Freedom!)
We'll rise in the morning with the Fenian band,
Rise in the morning with the Fenian band.

[Verse]
There's a grave beside the river,
A mile outside Kilkenny Town,
There I met this noble captain,
And men lay dead upon the ground.

[Chorus]
And you are welcome, Highland Paddy,
By me side you'll surely stand,
Hear the people shout for freedom, (Freedom!)
We'll rise in the morning with the Fenian band,
Rise in the morning with the Fenian band.

[Verse]
And there's a grave beside the river,
A mile outside Kilkenny Town,
There we laid this noble captain,
And birds were silent when the Fenian died.

Yes all my life, I will remember,
I'll remember, night and day,
Once I rode into Kilkenny,
And I heard the noble captain say.

[Chorus]
That you are welcome, Highland Paddy,
By me side you'll surely stand,
Hear the people shout for freedom, (Freedom!)
We'll rise in the morning with the Fenian band,
Rise in the morning with the Fenian band.

[Chorus]
Yes you are welcome, Highland Paddy,
By me side you'll surely stand,
Hear the people shout for freedom, (Freedom!)
We'll rise in the morning with the Fenian band,
Rise in the morning with the Fenian band.

[Chorus]
And you are welcome, Highland Paddy,
By me side you'll surely stand,
Hear the people shout for freedom, (Freedom!)
We'll rise in the morning with the Fenian band,
Rise in the morning with the Fenian band,
And you are welcome, Highland Paddy.
