Tom Williams - Spirit Of Freedom

Time goes fast as years go onwards,
But fresh in my memory I will keep,
Of a night in Belfast prison,
Unashamedly I saw men weep.

As the time was fast approaching,
A lad lay sentenced for to die,
And on the second of September,
He goes to meet his God on high.

And while marching to the scaffolds,
Head erect he shows no fear,
And while standing to attention,
Oh, Ireland's cross he holds most dear.

Oh, brave Tom Williams, we salute you,
And we never shall forget,
Those who planned your brutal murder,
We vowed we'd make them all regret.

So now a word to Irish rebels,
If from Tom's path you chance to stray,
Keep in memory of the morn,
When Ireland's cross was proudly borne,
By a lad no longer in a prison grave.
