Two Volunteers - Spirit Of Freedom

Was on a Friday night in March, before St. Patrick's Day,
Two volunteers they left their homes and started on their way,
To do an active service for brigade of East Tyrone,
But they didn't know what lay in store, would never again go home.

Well the night dark and windy, the rain came lashing down,
They left upon the road and in old Dungannon town,
They moved along out to the bridge, that's where their target lay,
But a fatal blast lit up the sky, two more had past away.

Oh Irishmen, remember them and raise your heads with pride,
For Ireland's cause they struggled and for you they fought and died,
The martyrs book is written, two names will be in gold,
Of Kevin Murray and Paddy McDonald, their legend be told.

Well now Paddy didn't have the time, to bid his parent adieu,
His ever-loving sweetheart, twin brother and sisters too,
They laid him down in a churchyard ground, within his family plot,
No that little spot at Edendork, will never be forgot.

Well now Kevin left his darling wife and four little children dear,
He didn't know it was goodbye so he left them with no fear,
And now he lies with Dungannon's dead within their Republican plot,
No that little spot at Edendork, will never be forgot.

Oh Irishmen, remember them and raise your heads with pride,
For Ireland's cause they struggled and for you they fought and died,
But remember those who are left at home to grievous loss
Of Tyrone's two gallant volunteers, who paid the final cost,
Of Tyrone's two gallant volunteers, who paid the final cost.
