[Verse]
Across Lough Neagh the winter winds were blowing,
The waves were flapping gently on the shore,
While three young lads, for Ireland's cause, lay dying,
The ones they loved would never see them more.
They had no love to spare for bold Britannia,
They had no respect for Stormont's cruel laws,
Their comrades were being tortured down in Long Kesh,
And they just had kept on fighting for the cause.
[Chorus]
Let the moon shine out tonight on Lough Neagh's waters,
Let the soft winds play a requiem on the shore,
For three young lads who gave their lives for Ireland,
Could any Irish soldier ask for more.
[Verse]
On a cold December night they died as martyrs,
It was only one short week to Christmas Day,
Their plan was just to free their land from bondage,
But the cruel fate had planned another way.
St Trea's team again will take the lineout,
But those gallant lad are missing from the fold,
The youthful Martin Lee and Johnny Bateson,
They will never more put on the green and gold.
With Jim Sheridan they've gone to join the martyrs,
Who throughout the years for Ireland's cause have died,
By Lough Neagh's banks they'll always be remembered,
And in Newbridge Church yard they lie side by side.
[Chorus]
Let the moon shine out tonight on Lough Neagh's waters,
Let the soft winds play a requiem on the shore,
For three brave lads who gave their lives for Ireland,
Could any Irish soldier ask for more.
