The Mountains Of Pomeroy (Poem) - The Young Wolfe Tones

They found a peaceful refuge in far lands beyond the sea,
And they left their country leaderless as they fled from tyranny,
For they faced the needle dynasty, who for gain and land would kill,
And who valued little human life once homeland coffers filled.

You were cleared from out land of plenty where generations toil,
You shunned the Dane and Saxon claim, that would your good name soil,
But your refused that privilege and you scorned the title lie,
And you stayed upon the hillsides and would rather death than fly.

Oh, your stand is vindicated, you refused the bend of knee,
And you seen the flight of earldom as a gnat of the unfree,
As your generous heart of kindness that had welcomed stranger kin,
You found a love as fair as any from the planter clan within.

Degenerate Irish, you cannot become, apartheid's early seeding,
Forbidden love that would confront that tyrants face of greed.
